Scientific Writing & Publishing with impact

This e-course provides comprehensive instruction on how to plan, write, edit and publish impactful scientific papers. Specifically, this modular e-course covers:

Module 1: Impact:  Definitions of impact, bibliometrics, science-to-society pathways, dimensions of impact, plagiarism and other ethical issues.

Module 2: Plan:  Understanding your audience, how to frame your research, problem definition, actions and outcomes, from data to interpretation, referencing, figures and tables, writing the abstract, choosing journal and authors.

Module 3: Write:  Narrative theory, elements and structure of scientific stories, tense in scientific papers, presenting results, writing the IMRaD sections (Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion), crafting the Title.

Module 4: Edit:  Understanding the reader, reader expectations of sentences and paragraphs, pitfalls for non-native English speakers, achieving flow and coherence in all units of discourse, words and style, editing the paper.

Module 5: Publish:  Life cycle of a paper, editorial processes at high-profile journals, peer review, writing a cover letter, types of editorial decisions, communicating with reviewers and editors, what happens after acceptance.
