VIB Bioimaging Core Spring Brunch
VIB Bioimaging Core Spring Brunch
General context
Basic and advanced light microscopy training.
With the growing impact of state-of-the-art microscopy techniques in life sciences, it is the right time to upgrade your imaging skills and benefit from it in your future research. This training event focuses on light microscopy techniques available at the the VIB BioImaing Core and covers basic and advanced applications.
On the first day, we will cover the fundamentals of optical microscopy. In the second session, we will dive into more advanced microscopy techniques and functional applications. Also, a discussion on imaging ethics will be organized. The topic of the final session is the basic concepts of image processing. Please, check out the program for more details.
All trainers are microscopy experts from the VIB BioImaging Core, who are happy to support you also beyond this training event.
During this training, we offer lectures on principles and theory behind several light microscopy techniques, and Q&A and discussion rounds where we welcome you to address any microscopy related questions you may have for your scientific project. Please note that the different lectures are inter-connected and that upon registration to this training, you are committed to attending the 3 entire brunch sessions.
This training targets scientists who want to learn about basic and advanced light microscopy applications. It is aimed at Ph.D. students, postdoctoral fellows, technicians or other scientists life sciences who require microscopy for their research.

Nikky Corthout
Amanda Gonçalves
Amanda is a Microscopy Expert at the VIB Bioimaging Core-Gent, where since 2011, she has gained expertise in large sample imaging and quantification, from slide scanner to light sheet. She also has over 15 years of experience teaching science, both practical and theoretical, on the graduate and post graduate levels.
Eef Parthoens
Evelien Van Hamme
Axelle Kerstens
Abril Escamilla Ayala
Gert Van Isterdael
As head of the VIB Flow Core, Gert provides flow cytometry expertise to the users of the core facility by giving technical help to the scientists, maintaining the machines, implicating high quality SOPs as well as providing both experimental setup and data analysis consultations. The Flow Core develops novel automated analysis techniques for multi-parameter flow cytometry data to remove user bias in close collaboration with the on-site Bioinformatics team headed by Prof. Yvan Saeys.

Practical info
All indicated times are CET.
Participants will receive more information on how to access the online platform to attend the training a few days before the start of the training.
We will use Hopin as online platform:
- For more information on the use of this platform, check this video.
- Please close other apps to maximize band width and use Chrome (preferentially), Firefox or Safari (iOS) as browsers.
- Here you can find some additional trouble shooting tips.
Next to the talks of the trainers that will take place in the 'lectures' area, make sure you don't miss out on the Q&A and interactive discussions with the speakers! Recordings will be available and send together with evaluations.
We hope you will take the opportunity to network with the other attendees and with the speakers. Go to networking (open at all time) and meet new people or invite people you want to have a private chat with or a small group chat of up to five persons.
