Duration:

General context

Do you want to optimize AI writing assistants (like ChatGPT) to suit your writing needs?

Do you feel you spend too much time fixing generic AI output instead of just starting fresh? In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to use the right prompts to make AI work FOR you. Through examples and exercises, you will learn how to improve your writing skills and productivity using AI text generators like ChatGPT.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the core principles, strengths, and limitations of generative AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT) in the context of research communication.
  • Critically assess when and how AI-generated text can add value—or cause risks—in scientific writing and outreach.
  • Create and adapt effective prompts to tailor AI output to their personal tone, audience, and writing objectives.
  • Build a personalized prompt library for recurring use cases in research communication.
  • Apply AI-assisted writing tools across different platforms (e.g. ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini) to boost productivity and creativity in academic or professional contexts.
Approach

This half-day interactive workshop introduces the principles and applications of AI writing tools, with a focus on science communication. After a short overview of AI systems and their use cases, participants explore the challenges and best practices of working with generative AI.

The session emphasizes hands-on practice: participants experiment with various tools and learn how to prompt AI to produce text that aligns with their voice, content goals, and discipline. Practical examples, live exercises, and peer exchange help solidify insights.

After the session, participants gain access to online resources including key takeaways, reusable prompt examples, and additional inspiration for future use.

Event intended for
  • Are you a researcher or science communicator?
  • Do you want to learn how to use ChatGPT to communicate about your research?
  • Do you struggle with reworking ChatGPT outputs?
  • Are you available on 13 February for a half-day workshop in Brussels?

If the answer is yes: this workshop is what you need!
