Basic statistics in Prism 9
Basic statistics in Prism 9
General context
This introduction to the use of the statistical software Prism is aimed at beginners.
The training covers data handling, graphics, and basic statistical techniques (t-tests, one-way ANOVA and non-parametric equivalents).
The following topics will be covered:
- How to use Prism 9 for simple statistical analyses: t-tests, one-way ANOVA and non-parametric counterparts...
- How to use Prism 9 for more advanced statistical analyses: two-way ANOVA, multiple t-tests....
- How to use Prism 9 to create graphs
- Regression and correlation in Prism 9
- Survival analysis in Prism 9
Prism is commercial software. There’s no point in following the training if you don’t have a license for the software. VIB participants can obtain the software for free via the VIB Apps catalog (login required).
The training will show you how to do statistics in Prism. It will not show you why we choose a certain test, make a certain plot…. For those of you who want to know more about the why we recommend to follow the Basic statistics theory training.
The theory training is free, it’s not mandatory but recommended for those who lack statistical background.
We will use Prism 9 in the training. Prism 8 will also work, Prism 7 is similar but has less options.
Older versions of Prism are very different from the current one and will not be supported during the training.
This course is part of the learning path Statistics.
Trainers
Janick Mathys
Janick tries to help VIB scientists analyze their data by offering bioinformatics training and support. Next to organizing trainings, creating e-learning courses and teaching statistics, R, Python, Linux, HPC, bulk and single cell RNA-Seq analysis, she consults scientists and develops pipelines for omics analyses. Before joining VIB, she worked as a post-doc at KULeuven, doing research on transcriptomics and transcription regulation. She coordinated the Master of Bioinformatics program of KULeuven and taught the course on Biological Databases.
