General context
Patenting in Biotech to create value from your research: a guide by VIB IP experts
This workshop gives the opportunity to the VIB Scientists to take a first dive, in a hands-on manner, into building an IP strategy to create value from research findings prior to publishing.
The particulars of protecting inventions and the patenting process will be showcased based on examples, with the aim to provide practical guidance to evaluation patentability of an invention.
Finally, IP managers of the VIB Innovation and Business team will give personal insights in the role of a Patent Attorney in academia, industry, or a law firm, and share their experiences and expertise in patent portfolio creation, advising of PI's and clients and share some tips for participants willing to pursue an IP career in future.
Trainers
Griet Den Herder
Griet is a European Patent Attorney and IP manager in the VIB Innovation & Business team. With a Master's in Biochemistry, and PhD in Biotechnology, and postdoc-research in the area of plant-microbe interactions, her scientific background was complemented with corporate experience in Regulatory Crop Science and in CMC development of biologics. Being a member of the IP team now for over ten years positions her with sound knowledge of the IP portfolio and valorization tracks pursued at VIB
Višnja Popović
Višnja Popović is a European Patent Attorney and an IP manager at VIB’s Innovation and Business Team. She is a Master of Pharmaceutical Sciences, with a PhD in Medicinal Sciences – Pharmacy, with specific expertise in medicinal- and natural products chemistry. Višnja has been professionally active in IP sector for more than eight years, working as a patent adviser in a law firm, an in-house patent engineer for a multinational company active in field of mechanics and material science, and for the past three and a half years as an IP manager at VIB.

There is only one entrance to Technologiepark. At the entrance, please take a ticket - Parking is only allowed in regular parking spots (for instance in front of the building) and in the parking tower. Parking alongside the roads or in other places where there is no regular parking is prohibited.
