Presenting on stage
Presenting on stage
24 October (full day) + follow-up session on 7 November 2025 (1/2 day)
General context
Science deserves a stage!
Are you giving a presentation on a public event, or for stakeholders, schools or colleagues? Are you nervous beforehand? Or do you want to get just that bit of extra flair? In this workshop, you can learn what a good story looks like on a stage, how to interact with your audience, and: you will practice it!
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify and craft a compelling narrative from their research that is suited to a broad audience.
- Structure a clear and engaging presentation tailored to public events, stakeholders, or educational settings.
- Use verbal and non-verbal techniques to connect authentically with an audience and hold their attention.
- Apply theatre-based tools (e.g. voice, body language, timing) to enhance stage presence and delivery.
- Rehearse and refine the opening of a presentation through feedback and peer try-outs.
- Reflect on personal presentation style and integrate improvements using trainer and peer feedback.
This blended training consists of a full-day in-person workshop followed by a half-day presentation try-out in a small group.
Led by trainer Ben Verhoeven, participants learn how to translate research into a story, interact with different audiences, and present with energy and confidence. Improvisation theatre techniques are used to build charisma, responsiveness, and spontaneity.
Between sessions, participants can revisit key concepts and examples online. In the second session, they present and refine their own talk in a supportive peer setting, with expert feedback and practical tips.
- Are you a researcher?
- Do you want to master the art of stage presence for every type of presentation: from conference to three-minutes pitch?
- Are you available on 26 February and 13 March 2025?
If the answer is yes: this workshop is what you need!
This workshop is organized by SciComm Academy. Registration procedure: see links under the registration button.

Ben Verhoeven
