Active Bystander Training - English session

Target Audience:
All VIB staff
Location:

Online session

General context

Racism, bullying, sexual harassment and other inappropriate behaviours contribute to a toxic culture. The impact they have on people can be hugely detrimental – leading to stress, anxiety and mental health problems. As we are seeing in the news, it can be deeply corrosive and damaging if these behaviours and attitudes are normalised over time. That’s why it’s essential for everyone to know how to speak up when problems arise.

This innovative and award-winning training gives you the skills to challenge unacceptable behaviours, including those which may have become normalised over time.

Please note that this talk may contain potentially sensitive content.

We will organize several sessions - in English and in Dutch - in 2023, so that everybody gets the chance to join for one of these sessions. Please note that the content will be the same for all sessions and that these are comparable to the talk given by Scott Solder during the VIB seminar in 2022.

Objectives
  • Overcoming fear and paralysis in challenging situations.
  • Using the right words and expressions when challenging behaviours.
  • How to tackle ‘micro-inequities’, including eye-rolling, sighing, constant interruptions and unconscious bias.
Event intended for

All VIB staff.
