How to Recognize Stress and Prevent Burnout: In-depth Sessions
19 & 26 March, each time from 13h30 - 17h00
General context
Please note that the date for the last session has been changed to 26 March because of dies natalis at UGent.
These sessions are part of a learning path. You first need to participate in the introductory session before you can attend these in-depth sessions. More information on the introductory session can be found here.
Session 1: Training your brain to get into relaxation status and tackle stress in daily life
You can automate the methods of getting into deep relaxation so that you can drop in your brain frequency in shorter and shorter periods of time. By doing these exercises, you learn to drop to low alpha and thêta, the levels of relaxation where you have much more self-control and you can recondition your brain itself in about 2 minutes.
In this session we will also learn several short methods that can be used at any time of the day. These methods help to drop slightly in brain frequency. So if you use them quickly enough (before you are completely stressed), they will help you calm down quickly in acute moments and keep your self-control. By using these methods you also prevent the stress from building up and leaving you exhausted and tired in the evening. Thanks to the application of these methods you can prevent accumulation of stress.
Session 2: The power of beliefs, the missing link to achieve lasting change
Our beliefs are the way we look at the world. We think it is the only truth and, as a result, we come into conflict with ourselves and those around us. After all, a belief is only a partial truth. Working first and then playing (= relaxing) is a good thought in itself, but limiting if you have been raised with it. If I relax first then I will work more efficiently afterwards is equally correct and thus complementary. It is AND - AND. When both beliefs are imprinted 100% in your brain, then you have choice and can adapt according to the situation and need. We are not aware of which beliefs we have and which ones we lack. This is 80-90% the cause of our stress in all areas of life. In this module you will reflect on your own thoughts, why you think this way and what complementary thoughts you need to reduce your stress.
Methods you will learn in session 1:
- Schultz method
- QRB method
- QRB with eyes open
- 3 finger technique
- abdominal respiration
- 365 method for heart coherence
What you can expect in session 2:
- What are beliefs and how do they arise?
- Are there good and bad beliefs?
- 4 steps for changing your beliefs
- How to formulate complementary beliefs
- How to imprint beliefs faster in your brain (= conditioning)
This session is a combination of theoretics frameworks and exercises to come to relaxation and change your beliefs. The participants will get access to an app to further practice the different relaxation methods that where discussed and practised. In addition, you will get access to 25 audio podcast episodes (NL only, unfortunately) (each +/- 30 minutes): very recognizable examples and concrete cases in which one learns to identify the underlying beliefs and discovers their impact on one's own reactions and challenges.
