General context

Are you struggling to write or to start writing your paper or thesis? VIB now offers individual academic writing support for PhD students. The possibility of receiving personalized feedback when writing your thesis chapters or article sections should give you the confidence to start or continue your writing process.

Objectives

By offering individual academic writing support for PhD students we want to guide starting researchers throughout the long and complex process of composing a thesis or article. You can submit a draft or last versions of thesis chapters or article sections when satisfied with the discipline-specific content and receive personalized feedback. In addition, you are welcome to ask for advice on your writing challenges.

Approach

If you have a first draft ready of a particular section or chapter in your article or thesis, you are welcome to submit it for review or proofreading with regard to academic writing conventions. You will receive feedback both in written and oral formats in a one-to-one feedback session.

Alternatively, if you have specific questions, concerns, or challenges that you experience with regard to academic writing, you can also ask for a individual session without submitting your draft.

After registering, you will receive information on how to submit your draft or last version to the coach and how to schedule the meeting to go over the results with the coach. Please note that you need to submit your draft at least 5 days prior to this meeting to give her sufficient time to revise your draft. As such, you will receive the comments in written form before the meeting. During the one-to-one review session, the focus will be on the optimal application of comments to an extent that you are happy with the final version.

Event intended for

VIB PhD students or postdocs who would like to receive proofreading for a first draft of a research article or thesis chapter or who would like to discuss specific concerns, challenges or questions concerning academic writing.
