Leadership & Communication for Support Staff

General context
Topics that will be addressed during this training are:
- Leadership & communication:
- Defining - 'A good agreement'
- How do you make good agreements?
- Being loyal to your own style - what does that mean?
- Communication:
- How to formulate objectives and share essential information with my team and/or management
- Receiving response to your questions
- How to communicate professionally and with impact
- Do's and don'ts in communication
- Communication structures and handling negative feedback
- Structure conversations and negative feedback
- Boundaries: examine, determine, protect and expand.
- Meeting culture:
- Good meeting management.
- Do's and don'ts in meeting culture
- How to deal with resistance in your team or with your team leader
The in person half-a-day training will be followed by an online follow-up of 2 hours to recapitulate and discuss how what you learned could be implemented and if there were possible challenges.
For VIB support staff, lab technicians and admin.
- This training is only open for VIB participants and is free.

Barbara Baert
As a professional Life-work company coach, Barbara is always looking for new challenges with focus on continued improvement. Science is her second passion and this suitcase of knowledge and her 11y experience as a lab manager have become the foundation of her career as coach. She has taken new but known steps in the world of coaching, mentoring and work on the skills such as life-work balance, management communication, leadership training, talent development and competence performance & performance management.
In 2021, Barbara started her own practice B-Management Coaching & Consulting to share her passion and experience. To help people step out of their comfort zone in a safe way with their own specific talents and competence is her main goal, which is essential for self-development and enforcement in a company. And of course important for both the employee as the team leader! Because management of change starts from within oneself and clear communication between each other.

There is only one entrance to Technologiepark. At the entrance, please take a ticket and have it validated at the reception desk of the FSVM building. Parking will only be allowed in regular parking spots (for instance in front of the building) and in the new parking tower. Parking alongside the roads or in other places where there is no regular parking is prohibited and after initial warnings, fines will be issued (€ 50).
