General context

Enhancing Skills in expectation management through strategic questioning, SMART goal setting, and effective feedback.
 

In the second part of our three-module professional skillset training series, we delve into the critical aspects of expectation management. This module focuses on practical experimentation with strategies that can transform your approach. You'll engage in hands-on exercises centered around tackling specific project scenarios, addressing timeline challenges, improving workstream communication and aligning team efforts.

Questions to ponder include:

  • How do you formulate precise goals when faced with uncertainties regarding the project or your client’s commitment?
  • What steps can you take when faced with unexpected hurdles such as changes in team composition, shifting responsibilities or alterations in timelines and reporting structures?
  • Moreover, how do you navigate the delicate art of delivering constructive feedback or managing challenging (read ‘bad’) news?

Prepare to roll up your sleeves and engage in candid discussions as we tackle these pivotal topics head-on.

Approach

This training will be a combination of theory, role playing, exercises and situation analysis. The focus will be on practicing.

The in person half-a-day training will be followed by an online follow-up of 2 hours to recapitulate and discuss how what you learned could be implemented and if there were possible challenges.

And of course important for both the employee as the team leader! Because management of change starts from within oneself and clear communication between each other.

  • Formulation & communication tools: SMART/ OUTCOME/COSMOS.

4. Re-managing expectations:

  • How to handle the change-control process.
  • How to come to an agreement.
  • The difference between co-creation and cooperation.

5. The art of feedback

  • Communication structures: DESC/ I see, I feel, and you, what next?
  • Giving and receiving feedback.
  • How to handle negative feedback.
