General context

Organoids have the potential to revolutionize the in vitro modelling of tissue morphogenesis and organogenesis, regenerative medicine and tissue engineering, drug discovery process and disease modelling. The goal of this symposium is to enhance our understanding of how organoids can be generated and maintained and how they can be used to study disease.

Learning outcomes

The symposium will start with an general introduction on advantages and limitations of the use of organoids, requirements for the technique and comparison with other (in vivo and in vitro) models. A next session will focus on organoid modelling of human development, especially on endoderm and neural development. Further more, we will also address organoids in disease modelling and therapeutic (or pharmacological) intervention.

Approach

Leading researchers in the field will update the participants on the most recent innovations, concerns as well as practical challenges encountered and solutions proposed in the fields of organoids. In addition, junior researchers of the invited labs will present a more hands-on approach on the topics, to make the discussions more lively and down-to-earth.

As one of the goals of this symposium is to bring together leading academic scientists with more junior researchers to exchange and share their experiences and research results on all aspects of organoid modelling, we will give the participants the possibility to book a seat at the table with the speakers during the coffee breaks and lunch. Also, we will end the day with a round table discussion with the speakers.

Event intended for

This training targets scientists who want to learn about the latest developments in organoid modelling of human development and disease. It is aimed at PhD students, postdoctoral fellows, technicians or other scientists with a molecular biology background.
